The Work "Aussenlager" looks at the phenomenon of the network of sub-camps that were attached logistically to the main concentration camps, a network which towards the end of the war was ever-expanding. On closer inspection it becomes clear that virtually no area of Germany could have been unaffected by this system, which must have paraded the terror before the very eyes of a large section of the population. In this particular form it was often masked by civilian installations.
